Sabine Purcell - JBl Education

I moved to the UK in 1989 and have stayed ever since. I spent 2 years as a French Assistant in High Schools in Leeds and Harrogate and then completed a one year HND in International Business at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Following three years as ‘Conference Organiser’ for businesses in Dewsbury i decided i wanted to teach and returned to Leeds Metropolitan University to complete a degree in Secondary Education.

Since then i have worked as a French Teacher in Secondary and Primary schools in Yorkshire and Merseyside. Whilst bringing up my family i took the opportunity to offer private French Tuition and have been doing so ever since.

I have extensive experience in private French Tuition ‘one to one’ or in small groups and have tutored students from 5 years of age to 60+ either in French conversation; school support; or preparation for GCSE; A Level and Undergraduate Degrees in French.

I am very proud of my French heritage and culture and I am keen to share my love of the French language and all things French with others.

I recognise all students learn in different ways and have different levels of confidence and i make sure that i always personalise the learning to meet the specific needs and ambitions of each and every student. I also want students to enjoy their learning and have some fun with the language and i endeavour to make my lessons a fun and interactive experience.

I am pleased to be able to say that every student who has taken up the opportunity to have private French Tuition with me has made significant progress. I have included some testimonials on the site for you to read a sample of comments from a range of my students.

I am currently the ‘Executive Lead’ for an ambitious collaboration of 28 secondary schools and colleges with a Local Authority. I also provide ‘Executive Support’ for an alliance of primary and secondary Special Schools. In both roles the focus is typically developing and creating education leaders, deepening their skills and knowledge, and sharing best leadership practice within and across the partnerships.

I have been a Senior Leader in schools for over 20 years including 12 years as the Head teacher at a large comprehensive school. I have considerable school improvement experience leading staff and students in a wide variety of different contexts within school and beyond. As a trustee and a governor of two large secondary schools and a Trustee of a MAT of Special Schools I have extensive knowledge of the role of governance within wide ranging educational settings.

My work is characterised by a rigorous attention to detail, a strong moral purpose, an unshakeable belief in the power of collaboration and a relentless ambition for all young people and staff. I believe I have the leadership skills, the drive and enthusiasm, the emotional intelligence and the business acumen to quickly earn the respect and trust of new colleagues to support them to effectively review, develop and lead school improvement work within their schools for the benefit of all.

Personally, and professionally my experiences have shaped my belief that all students and staff grow and achieve better in a broad educational environment characterised by trust, collaboration, ambition and diversity. Where students are empowered to lead their own educational and personal development and consequently take informed responsibility for driving and shaping their own futures. The same philosophy can be applied to all staff within schools and all schools within local areas.

“Sabine has been my French tutor for three years. At the beginning I could not speak or understand French. I have learnt to understand the language and I am able to converse happily in French when I am in France. Sabine was outstanding in helping me to understand the grammar which has enabled me to continue my French studies on my own. I am able to read French books and magazines and all French correspondence. Sabine has also helped me to understand the French culture which is so helpful as I have a French property. Best of all Sabine is a lovely person and has a great sense of humour making our French lessons so enjoyable.”

“Sabine was invaluable during my French studies, and I absolutely loved our lessons together. Sabine is a patient teacher who helped me to speak French naturally and fluently and to master difficult grammar structures. With Sabine’s help, I was able to achieve an A* at French A Level, with full marks for my final year speaking and writing papers.”
Emma
“Sabine has been tutoring me for these previous few months – but even though I have only had Sabine during the last year of my A Level it has made such a difference! Not only has my French work improved but my confidence with the subject has also- I felt so much more comfortable with my abilities! Sabine not only just teaches you new grammar, vocabulary, and information about the language – but helped me to pick up on little things in my work that may have not been picked up on by teachers or ideas that I have brushed under the carpet for years – explained by Sabine in 10 minutes and never a problem again in most cases! Sabine is also very in touch with French culture, being French herself, which is something some teachers/tutors cannot provide but makes all the difference when it comes to discussions for example in any oral aspect of the language, and of course ways to make your work sound fluent- like you’re really French! But most importantly, Sabine is the friendliest, patient and determined tutor, who will enjoy teaching you, which reflects in the amazing way she teaches!”

“Sabine has tutored both of my children for GCSE French, and she has been fantastic. Sabine worked wonders with my son and daughter: her support really boosted their confidence and they both made rapid progress. Sabine has an excellent knowledge of the exam requirements and enabled my children to revise in a more effective manner. I would not hesitate to recommend Sabine to anyone looking for a French tutor.”

“I have known Sabine Purcell for many years and would highly recommend her as a teacher of the French language. She taught both my sons privately when they were in their early years at primary school. She makes the learning process fun for young children, and she is patient and kind in her manner. She instilled in them a love of languages and a desire to learn more. My youngest child continued learning French through to GCSE alongside German and obtained A* in both subjects, my eldest child has just completed a degree in Italian and History and obtained a First-class Honours. Without that early input from Sabine, I doubt they would have been so successful. I believe there is no greater gift that you can give your child than early exposure to a second language, it widens their experience and outlook on cultures other than our own and kindles in them a real desire to learn to speak to foreigners in their own mother tongue. If you share this philosophy, then I cannot recommend Sabine more highly as the person to start your child on that wonderful road of learning another language.”
Stephanie (Parent)
“I would definitely recommend Sabine for tutoring, I have had the most wonderful 4 years with her, always making me feel confident with my work and pushing me to achieve my full potential. Thanks to Sabine, I was inspired to do A-Level French which she taught with such enthusiasm and made it a fun yet challenging experience. I am more than grateful to have her, and you can always rely on the fact that she will go through every method until you fully understand, no matter how long it takes!”
